Hospital floor named for local attorney:
The second floor of the Ortenzio Heart Center at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill
has been named in honor of Niles Benn, a local attorney whose clients include the
York Daily Record/Sunday News.
Benn has served as chairman of the hospital's board for five years and chairman
of the health system for the past six years, a position he holds today.
Sister Romaine Niemeyer, Sisters Christian Charities, who is president of the
health system, said Benn had put many hours into getting the heart center opened,
and she believed naming a floor after him was appropriate.
In the mid-'70s, Benn had a law office in the Dillsburg area.
Several churches approached Benn to tell him that a doctor who had served many
poor patients was leaving. They asked him to get Holy Spirit to open a health center.
He negotiated with Holy Spirit and later became involved in the hospital's boards.
"He's been a great leader within the health care system," Niemeyer said.
"His input is invaluable."
The Dillsburg health center is still open and serves all patients.
The heart center at the Camp Hill facility opened in 2003.
"I get terrific satisfaction that I am assisting in some minor way
with improving medical services for our community," Benn said.
