Alida and Miles Bunder moved from Miami Beach, Florida, to a new house in Maale Adumim when
they retired. Before coming on aliyah, they both worked in Jewish education for many years.
Alida worked in early childhood education and in special education and was the founder and
headmistress of Kesher, a special-needs school. Miles worked as an educator in the Center for
the Advancement of Jewish Education for 24 years.
Alida and Miles have three children and five grandchildren. Their daughter and two
grandchildren live in Maale Adumim. In retirement, they devote themselves to volunteer work.
Alida volunteers at a special-needs nursery in Maale Adumim, and they both volunteer for the
Gamle Riding Academy in Maale Gamle. They also volunteer for the Jerusalem branch of SPNI
(nature org.), as well as in the Maale Adumim branch of Agudah L'Maan Hachayal.
They lived in Israel from 1981 to 1985 and they always wanted to come back. They retired seven
years early, while they are still in good health, and came to Israel. Their motto is "Don't
postpone joy."
In Israel, they are "loving every moment here!" They advise others to "think seriously about
retiring in Israel — it's affordable and amazing!"
This part is from the Camp Ramah Stories:
Miles P. Bunder & Alida Krovetz Bunder
Camp Attended: Poconos
Met: 1964
Married: 1966
Miles was asked to drive the Baum Meat Truck from NY with luggage.
As he followed the bus of staff to camp, two girls made faces at him
from the back window of the bus. When he arrived at camp,
Miles set up a fake registration table and when Alida approached,
he asked her to join him at the "No PDA" talk that night.
They dated until January, when Alida broke up with him.
Miles then asked Rabbi Mogilner, a close friend,
to arrange for Alida to be assigned to Poconos the summer of '65.
Jack Gruenberg was asked to pick her up from the bus station, and while
driving to camp, mention Miles. The rest is history.
